Machu Picchu is a historic sanctuary, a 15-th century Inca citadel.
It is situated at 2,430 meters above sea-level, in the middle of tropical mountain forest.
It is located in the Eastern Cordillera of Southern Peru, on the eastern slopes of the Andes in the Upper Amazon basin. There is a rich diversity of flaura and fauna .
The mixed World Heritage, cultural and natural values, property covers 32,592 hectares of mountain slopes, peaks and valleys.
“ La ciudadela” ( the citadel) is a spectacular arheological monument .
